Everything

I could give you everything

if everything is all that you wanted.

But everything includes imperfections,

Damage and baggage to be sorted.

Your words tantalize and tease,

But make promises you won’t keep.

And I should have known that

Your everything only sounds sweet.

Inevitably you deliver nothing,

Because ultimately you don’t want anything.

Your pretentious armor is jagged and jaded,

Built of lost loyalties and false memories.

You fear to feel, drawing sandy lines

For me to trip over and fail your tests.

You take solace in your rectitude,

And hide in your obscure loneliness.

Everything was yours for the taking,

and anything could have been possible.

But you preferred to take nothing,

And never gave a chance to the probable.
