A Letter to the Obtuse
The guilty always wish to blame others for their mistakes. Over time they see themselves as hard done by because they believe forgiveness is their right. It is not.
Decisive Rose
From 4 November 2023 to 10 March 2024, the Art Gallery of NSW held the most comprehensive exhibition of works by one of Europe’s most well-known modernist abstract artists, Vasily Kandinsky, ever seen in Australia. While it wasn’t the first time I’d seen this artist’s works in person, this exhibition featuring over 50 of them was nothing less than breathtaking - so much so that I visited the exhibition twice. Walking through the exhibition was a journey through colour and motion and music and vitality and life, but one piece in particular caught my attention. “Decisive Rose” stunned me with its uniqueness against a backdrop of vibrant colour and noise. It inspired this poem.
This Secret Passion
An unfulfilled passion consumes your thoughts in the quiet dead of night and the slow start of an early morning.
Shadows
At a particular time of day, as the sun goes down, more may be lost than just possessions.
A Tale of Early Morning Woes, or, The Drunk Fairy (a true story)
The peaceful sleep of residents in this suburban palace was disturbed in the early morning of an ordinary weekday. It was the same culprit, yet again, and only one person was able to put a stop to it.
The Final Post
To be a writer, you have to write. Write always, as often as you can, about anything and everything. It takes time and energy and practice to do that. That is what this blog was all about. And now that I have proven to myself that I have the stamina to be a writer, it’s time that I turn my attention to that.
The Onus of Nurturing
With age and maturity comes a knowing of oneself that is critical in ensuring we make life choices appropriate to our abilities. Thankfully, I learned one important lesson about myself very early on in life that has saved us all from heartache.
Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff
So often we hear chatter about the lack of resilience in our younger generations - so used to being molly-coddled, is it possibly our fault that the young are seemingly ill-equipped at dealing with life’s setbacks?
La Tanguera (Part 2)
Partner dancing is more than just executing specific steps, it is connecting and communicating with another person without words, it is listening with your body, and letting yourself go to a feeling of oneness with another human being.
La Tanguera (Part 1)
When two people come together to dance, something magical happens and to witness it can be thrilling. But learning to create that magic is an entirely different matter.
All The Goodbyes
A poem about coping with goodbyes.
Possession Obsession
For generations, parents have imposed upon their children the obligation of sharing. But despite this concerted effort, as adults we remain intensely jealous of everything we perceive as ours.
Neither Influence Nor Persuasion
If you’re interested in persuading others to come to your point of view or in influencing other people’s behaviour, than you better make sure of one thing - that they LIKE you first.
Ah! Mr Darcy!
How can this character invented over two hundred years ago still make women swoon in today’s day and age? What is it about Mr Darcy that we find irresistible and what is his power to make us dream of pure love?
Figuratively Speaking
Our notion of what a beautiful woman looks like is so often dictated by the gaze of others, or of our own unrealistic expectations. Why can’t we just love ourselves and each other for who we are not how we look?
Who Are The Grown Ups Here?
What does being a grown-up mean and when do you know if you’ve finally gotten there?
Single Decisions - Part 2
Sometimes you’re faced with making a decision in which there is no right answer and the burden of choosing what to do can be overwhelming.
Single Decisions - Part 1
Making decisions on your own might seem easy enough on paper, but sometimes the choice between one path or another isn’t as clear cut as you wish it to be, and having to choose which road to take, on your own, can be harder than you imagine.
Heaven on Two Wheels
For me, nothing is more thrilling than being on the back of a motorbike or scooter, zooming along with nothing but the wind and the sky around you. It’s heaven.
